FAQs
A few key questions to help you understand how the platform works and how to engage with it.
About the Platform
What is BuildHerThon?
BuildHerThon is a Trimble platform, powered by Panelle, placing women at the centre of solving real-world infrastructure challenges.
It connects leadership, projects and future talent into a single system, where insight is translated into action and visibility into measurable impact.
The platform is designed to shape how infrastructure is delivered, how leadership is represented, and how the next generation is supported.
Who is Trimble?
Trimble is a global technology company connecting the physical and digital worlds. It transforms how infrastructure is designed, built and managed across construction, geospatial, transportation, agriculture and the built environment.
Through its technology, data and insight, Trimble enables more connected, informed and efficient ways of delivering infrastructure at scale.
How does BuildHerThon work?
BuildHerThon operates as a connected platform made up of three core layers:
- Projects addressing real-world infrastructure challenges
- Leadership collaboration through advisory groups
- The Skills Exchange, a curated member network supporting progression and capability
Together, these layers create an ongoing system that connects leadership, delivery and future talent.
What is a BuildHerThon Advisory Group?
BuildHerThon Advisory Groups bring together curated groups of senior women leaders from across the global infrastructure ecosystem to guide and strengthen the delivery of projects.
Each group provides strategic input, industry expertise and practical insight, ensuring that projects are shaped by real experience and aligned to the wider platform.
Advisory Groups contribute to direction, challenge thinking and support meaningful outcomes, while remaining closely connected to project delivery and platform development.
Is BuildHerThon a campaign or a long-term platform?
BuildHerThon is designed as a long-term, scalable platform.
It is not a one-off initiative or campaign, but a structured system that can expand across regions, projects and partnerships over time.
Why does BuildHerThon exist?
BuildHerThon exists to address two connected challenges across the built environment: increasing complexity in how infrastructure is delivered, and a lack of diversity in the leadership shaping those decisions.
As projects become more complex and interconnected, better outcomes depend on broader perspectives, stronger collaboration and more inclusive leadership.
BuildHerThon creates a platform where leadership, capability and real-world delivery are connected, enabling better decisions, stronger outcomes and a more representative future workforce.
As a platform, it reflects Trimble’s position at the centre of the built environment ecosystem and its commitment to shaping more inclusive, representative leadership across the industry, alongside its ability to connect technology, leadership and delivery at scale.
Is BuildHerThon a global platform?
BuildHerThon is designed as a global platform, with the ability to support projects, partnerships and participation across multiple regions.
While initial work is focused on Eastern Uganda, the model is built to expand over time, connecting leadership, expertise and opportunity at a broader, international level.

What is the Skills Exchange?
The Skills Exchange is a curated member network being developed within BuildHerThon, connecting leadership, emerging talent and future professionals across the built environment.
It is a structured mentoring and knowledge exchange layer, supporting capability, confidence and long-term progression.
The model is focused on strengthening women’s progression, while operating as an inclusive network that draws on a broad range of experience, perspective and leadership across the industry.
As it develops, the Skills Exchange will incorporate intelligent matching, using data-driven insight to connect participants based on experience, goals and context, ensuring that insight is applied in meaningful and practical ways.
Who is the Skills Exchange for?
The Skills Exchange brings together a curated network across the built environment, with a clear focus on supporting women’s progression.
- Women leaders contributing experience and insight

The Skills Exchange is currently being developed as part of the BuildHerThon platform.
As it evolves, there will be opportunities to contribute, participate and engage across different areas of the network.
Further details on how to get involved will be shared as the platform develops.
Is the Skills Exchange open to everyone?
The Skills Exchange is designed to strengthen women’s progression across the built environment, while operating as an inclusive, cross-industry network.
Participation spans different roles within the ecosystem:
- Women at different stages of their careers, from early talent through to emerging professionals, forming the core mentee community
- Mentors drawn from across the industry, including both women and men, bringing a broad range of experience, perspective and leadership
- A wider network of participants as the platform develops, while maintaining a clear focus on supporting progression where it is most needed
Membership will be curated to ensure quality, relevance and meaningful outcomes across the network.
Projects and Partnerships
What is the Uganda Nexus+ project?
The Uganda Nexus+ project is the first flagship BuildHerThon initiative, delivered in Eastern Uganda in partnership with Engineers Without Borders.
It focuses on infrastructure master planning, data development and community-led design, enabling local authorities to unlock funding and deliver long-term infrastructure improvements.
The project demonstrates how BuildHerThon connects leadership, technology and real-world outcomes.
Will there be more projects beyond Uganda Nexus+?
BuildHerThon is designed as a platform that can support multiple projects across regions and contexts.
Uganda Nexus+ is the first flagship initiative, demonstrating how leadership, technology and local insight can come together to deliver real-world infrastructure outcomes.
Future projects will build on this model, expanding the platform’s reach and impact over time.
How does Trimble’s technology contribute to BuildHerThon?
BuildHerThon connects leadership and collaboration with real-world infrastructure delivery, where technology plays a critical role in enabling better planning, decision-making and outcomes.
Through the platform, Trimble’s technology supports areas such as data development, infrastructure planning and project delivery, helping translate insight into practical, on-the-ground impact.
Rather than being positioned in isolation, technology is embedded within projects and workflows, demonstrating how it enables more effective, informed and connected infrastructure delivery.
How can organisations get involved in projects?
BuildHerThon works with partners across infrastructure, technology and the wider built environment ecosystem.
Organisations can contribute through project collaboration, leadership participation or strategic partnership.
All opportunities are aligned to the platform’s focus on real-world impact, leadership and long-term value.

Approach and Vision
Why focus on women in the built environment?
The built environment shapes how people live and work, yet women remain underrepresented in senior decision-making roles across the sector.
BuildHerThon is founded on the belief that more representative leadership leads to better outcomes.
By placing women at the centre of real projects, the platform aims to influence how infrastructure is designed, delivered and governed.
